S2: Episode 22: Season Finale

Season 2

Ah…it’s season finale time here at Final Answer Trivia. Last season—we talked about some of the more memorable season finales back when they were pretty new to us.

We covered “Soap” Season 1—Jessica Tate was guilty!!! We covered the big one— “Dallas” Season 3—Who shot J.R.? And we talked about one that was near and dear to me— “Dynasty” Season 5—The Moldavian Massacre.

One of the more “shocking” ones that happened next was at the end of “Dallas” Season 9.

Let me try and set this one up—at the end of Season 8—Patrick Duffy—who portrayed Bobby Ewing on the show—his contract was ending. He decided to leave the show to try and find other acting opportunities.

When Duffy was leaving at the end of Season 8—the decision was made to straight-up kill him. No “leaving town” kind of exit, or “put in a coma” type thing. Nope. Hit by a car while saving Pam Ewing.

Duffy didn’t find another role in the year after his departure.(F.A.T. Editors Note: He actually wanted the part in an ABC drama called “Heart of the City”, but it went to another actor. It was cancelled after 13 episodes.) He was asked to return and now the decision had to be made how to resurrect him. This was pre-internet, so there were no rumors or spoilers that I can remember.

The season finale of Season 9—Pam wakes up in the morning—walks into the bathroom—and bam! Bobby greeting her in the shower.

This was one of those “get everyone talking” season finales that “Dallas” was legendary for. Not as big as “Who shot J.R.?”—but it definitely had people buzzing and talking about how/why/what that summer.

A different era in tv—but pretty cool when surprises happen—and people are genuinely shocked.

So—how did they explain this one? In one of the most interesting twists in tv history—Pam realized that—
