S2: Episode 20: Piping Hot Arby's

Season 2

Let’s just go ahead and finish fast food week with 4 more items that have been discontinued at a few more places that I used to frequent quite often.

Here are some tasty dishes from Burger King, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and delicious piping hot Arby’s.

  • Burger King Hot Toppers - This is a deep cut that was so good. I’ve admitted before that I’ve never had a Whopper—why do you ask? Well…one of the reasons was because BK kept coming out with cool options like these.

Enjoy this late 80’s commercial—check out that station wagon!

  • Pizza Hut Bigfoot Pizza - Pizza Hut dropped this around 1993 to compete with Little Caesar’s Big Big Cheese Pizza. And…back then…Pizza Hut crushed Little Caesar’s. I’m not sure about today—but back then? It wasn’t close. Anyway—the Bigfoot was 2 square feet of pizza—maybe my memories of this are a little clouded because of the price—it was only $10.99 for 3 toppings. $8.99 if we were all hurting for cash that week. I could chip in a couple of bucks with my buddies and eat like a king.

  • Taco Bell Bacon Club Chalupa - I don’t remember when this one first launched—but I know it was brought back a few times in the 2010’s. Bacon, chicken, ranch in a chalupa shell. Delicious.

  • Old School delicious, piping hot Arby’s French Dip - Once upon a time—It was on a smaller bun AND it didn’t come with swiss cheese on it. The smaller bun was just better than the giant bun they have now. Plus, the cheese getting dipped in the au jus was just gross to me.(F.A.T Editors Note: I know I can order it without cheese…and I know I can eat half of the sub and it’s close to being the same. It’s not the same. Trust me.)

This early 80’s one had a different size bun—and no cheese! It was perfect!

  • Honorable Mention—sort of—Burger King Big Plain. Check out this delicious option that was available for a short time back in 1973. I mean—just reading the name of it gets your mouth watering, doesn’t it?

Do you have any favorites you wish they would bring back? Let me know in the comments.

TV 📺

Hodge-Podge💥

  • This actor has appeared in somewhere around 100 different tv shows since 1977—-as an on-screen actor or as a voice actor. A pretty good chance that anyone watching tv since the 80’s has seen him at least once. Based on his 80’s/90’s acting roles, unfortunately—he really only had 1 show that made it more than a season. Ouch. He might be our unofficial “One-Season Wonder King”.(F.A.T. Editors Note: Might be an interesting topic for me to research. Sigh.)

    For today’s questions:

  • Name this actor.

  • Name as many of the primetime/cable tv shows that he was in the opening credits—or appeared in many episodes—from 1979-1999.

    • 1979-1980 - 28 episodes -

    • 1982 - 4 episodes -

    • 1986 - 11 episodes -

    • 1981 - 1987 - 29 episodes(a recurring guest-star role) -

    • 1987 - 1988 - 14 episodes -

    • 1989 - 10 episodes -

    • 1990 - 1991 - 17 episodes -

    • 1992 - 1998 - 89 episodes -

    • 1999 - 4 episodes -

Hodge-Podge💥

  • This mid-80’s band released their second album in 1985—and they hit it big with two #1 Billboard Hot 100 hits. They also released a third song that also charted in the top 10—hitting #8. Tell me this third hit song and this band.
